The Oral History Project, an ongoing effort in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, interviews individuals whose personal stories provide vital information on the history of jazz.  While most interview subjects have been musicians, the scope of the Project is not confined to them.  Friends, relatives, and spouses of musicians, enthusiasts, and ordinary fans all have their stories to contribute.

The Commission has also begun preserving and copying personal photo collections of participants in the Oral History Project.  To date, photos have been collected from the personal collection of Jerome Green, Alcide Nunez, Frank Rosato, and Gerald Adams.

Videotapes of these interviews and copies of the photos are available for viewing by scholars and interested individuals at the Hogan Jazz Archives.

Interview subjects so far have included: Wendell Eugene, Lionel Ferbos, Frank Vicari, Dick Allen, Warren Bell, Sr., Curtis Mitchell, Frank Mitchell, Mrs. Barney Bigard, Phil Darois, Joe Quaglino, Phil Quaglino, Adolphus Morris, Herbert Permillion, Bob Mielke, McNeil Breaux, Harold Dejan, Phamous Lambert, Walter Lewis, Vincent Mancuso, Norman Meyer, Milton Batiste, Frank Rosato, Henry Schmidt, Lloyd Washington, Alvin Alcorn, Sam Moody, Placide Adams, Waldren “Frog” Joseph, Joe Grissafi, Reginald Koeller, Ernest Watson, Jr., Regina J.
